I can't speak for everyone else, but I keep mine covered up so much I dont think most people get a chance to discriminate against me.  Would they if they knew?  I don't know.  I'm sure many would, but probably not most.

I think it is a natural instinct for us to feel like we need to hide.  There are a few lucky people on this site who have learned to accept and embrace the cards they have been delt.  Sadly, I am not one of them yet.

There will always be people who look at you funny... there will always be people who ask questions (which is fine) ... and every now and then, you will get a really rude, ignorant person who makes you feel bad about yourself.

I think those three reactions are normal anywhere... not just in the US.  We as a whole need to educate the world on Psoriasis.  They are reacting to the fear of the unknown.  There are so many people who deal with this disease... even worst, there are more who have never heard of it.

I've dealt with my fair share of prejudice, especially since the Plantar palmar Pustular psoriasis broke out (under control atm); people would look at me like I had some major exotic disease because of the tiny blisters on my hands... sometimes store clerks were afraid to take money from me...
The other thing I love is this whole arthritis thing; because I get as sick as I do sometimes, people will ask what is wrong with me, I tell them as politely as I can withoutgoing into major detail and then I usually get the"but your too young to be so sick" or "my friend so-and-so had some kind of thing like that and if you just try such and such like her you would feel much better"; I've even gotten this from nurses-
The world is not very informed about our disease, or when a person has a little information, they usually think it's some sort of "dry skin thing".... I'm comfortable with myself and my place in the world, just get tired of having to be stared at or even thought of as a hypochondriac by uninformed people = )

Everyone in the world has their "thing" ours just shows itself a little redder, a little blotchier and a whole lot itchier!   Love ya all! and Major Hugs!

It's a catch 22...I used to cover up more and then I started thinking if someone asks I will educate and advocate.

I have it and psoriasis is not contagious...you can't catch it.

It is really hard to cover my face enough to hide the psoriasis and nothing I can do about my ears, but thankfully most people I meet have manners enough to ask kindly or not say anything at all.  My in-laws are harder to deal with.  Since there is not enough information about it I get creams offered up and told to ask my doc about prednisone.  I get more strange looks from people when I wear my bluetooth heaadset around town, and in CA it is the law to wear one while driving!  People are strange.
