I like whatever I can get for free, so I use the sun.  I have heard though that many people do well with it, so if it is available to you and you can afford it, go for it!

So you just tan outdoors when you can? How much does it help clear up your flare ups?

It isn't tanning, lol.  You only want to get about 10 min (for fair skinned people) of sun during optimal conditions.  The primary purpose is to make pre vit D in the skin (according to what I have read this is what helps with flare ups).  One would do this when the sun is directly overhead, in other words, when you cast no shadow.  After this time, you want to wear sunscreen so that you do not burn.  My derm was the first to tell me to just get some sun.  Sunlight also helps with the release of "feel good" chemicals in the brain that can help us de-stress.

I have been using a vit D and steroid ointment since last spring, adding a few minutes of sunning 2 to 3 times a week did help keep things under control.  Others though, have cleared up with sunning.

lol... opps... I guess thats why I'm asking questions! I don't know anything about it yet! So you also supplement with a vitamin? And thanks for the information!

You are welcome, and ask away that is what everyone is here for!  Some people take vitamin D as well, but I hesitate to say that it is a good idea.  Check with a doctor first, because too much can be toxic.  A good place to read up on vitamin D is wikipedia.org
