How do you show your support?

I was wondering how others help to support their loved ones who are coping with psoriasis. My significant other has been dealing with psoriasis since he was a child. We have been together for 16 years. This past year or so, he has really become more aware of it, more self-conscious, more upset about the impact it has on his appearance. I want to be supportive but I don't want to make his illness the focus of our interactions. That may sound odd; I have an auto-immune disease that significantly impacts my health and have worked very hard to keep my valuable personal relationships from becoming the Juleah health status debriefing hour. I want to keep my focus on him (as a whole person) and how much I love him. Any suggestions or tips?

Men are such strange creatures at times.  My DH has done something similar, but it is the reverse of you, haha.  It could be something as simple as a new job, or wanting advancement (the whole settling down thing) and feeling like he won't get to that spot as long as psoriasis is visible to his employer.  Or it could be that he is just tired of putting up with the spots.  In either case, he may be going through an emotional time.  If he talks openly with you, ask him why it bothers him so much now.  Or seek counseling, because the stress of living with p can cause it to flare.  Hope that helps.
