I have always been overwieght and have always had severe Psoriasis(since age three).  I find that when my skin worsens, I gain weight or have a really tough time losing.  When my inflammation is at it's worst, my weight goes up and up.  When I was on Raptiva, I lost weight almost effortlessly.  My skin was clear too.  When I recently went off Raptiva, I had a bad flare and gained five pounds.

After years of struggling with both conditions, I feel there is a strong connection with the two.  So, I would have to say that no, weight gain does not excerbate my psoriasis, the psoriasis contributes to my weight gain.

I have to say that I believe it does. Unfortunately, weight gain for some is like another side effect. In my case, I cannot exercise with the pain from both psoriasis and arthritis, which has caused me to gain some weight, and I've seen an increase in my lesions. Can't say for sure that it's the weight gain since I could have got worse anyway.

I am that article! I was diagnosed with P. (the plaque version) back in 1977, I am currently 57 years old. I've noticed, over the years, that when I kept myself in good physical condition, my skin symptoms improved. Recently, I have really struggled, even though I try my best to live healthy and stay active. My skin went crazy on me, this was during a period when I had an infected tooth. I had my tooth fixed, and some of the lesions went away, but more stayed. My scalp was a disaster and so were my legs & arms. PA flared with a vengence, I never felt so much pain in my finger tips! So I went to see my dermatologist and he fixed me up with some potent meds, that pretty much has my skin under control. I have an appointment to see the Rhuematologist .... my derm wants me to go on Enbrel. However this past week, I was diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetis, High blood pressure, and yes... they say I am obese. I have been working out with my Wii fit, every am, for the past month.... i missed one day. Still I can't seem to reduce my weight. So I feel what the article says is true, at least it is for me. But what do we do?  Can I have metabolic syndrome and still take Enbrel? Anyone know?
